Biography

Velourias are an alternative rock band from Dublin, Ireland. Phil, Rob and Nick formed the band in 2006, united by a shared love of bands like The Manic Street Preachers and At The Drive-in. Velourias spent their formative years practicing and writing in a carpentry shed in North Dublin, before temporarily relocating to the UK for a year to gig and record. The result was their self-titled debut album, released in 2012. It was described as "One of the best Irish rock albums all year" and "A full-on, alt. rock tour de force with killer choruses" by Edwin McFee of Hotpress.

After a 5 year hiatus, Velourias returned in 2022 and immediately started work on completing their 2nd album.

We Float Down Rivers is the first single from that album, and was released in February 2023. It attempts to deal with subjects of human trust, corporations, mortality and selfishness. The track has received airplay from Dan Hegarty (2FM), Kieran McGuinness (Radio Nova), John Barker (Dublin City FM), Alan Jacques (Limerick Live 95) and Dermot De Faoite (IndieRocks FM), and was included on Nialler9's Best New Irish Music playlist.

This was followed up by second single Old Age Home Lament, released in July 2023. This song depicts loneliness and isolation in the elderly and an over-reliance on 24 hour news channels as a source of distraction.

Velourias released their third single, A Forest Of Lungs, in November 2023. This track can best be described as an avant-garde case study on toxic masculinity spliced with a sprinkling of PTSD, isolation and an eventual cleansing of the soul.

Velourias will release their 2nd album in 2024.
